DESCRIPTION: The Moon Jellyfish, otherwise knows as the Moon Jelly or Saucer Jelly is best recognised by its translucent appearance and the radial canals, oral arms and gonads which are are usually mauve, violet, reddish, pink or yellowish in colour.The gonads are seen in a group of 4 with each one forming a near circle or horseshoe shape. The main body of the creature is thick but becomes thinner towards the edge where are found numerous short hollow tentacles that are covered in stinging cells. DISTRIBUTION: Located alll around British shores. HABITAT: A species best seen at low water or in shallow zones. TIME TO SEE: All year round. |
